Dzama Marcel

Nativo di Winnipeg, capitale della provincia di Manitoba, nel Canada occidentale, Marcel Dzama ha elaborato uno stile tanto rarefatto quanto piacevole, grazie al quale trasforma i peggiori retroscena della vita di tutti i giorni, gli incubi e i lemuri della psiche, in innocenti fantasie infantili.
Protagonisti dei suoi dipinti sono personaggi vestiti da alberi, grandi orsi selvaggi, bambine crudeli e inquietanti
infermiere. Come si domanda una stupita Francesca Gavin in Postmodern fairy tales at the Ikon Gallery (BBC’s
Collective N. 224, giugno 2006), “Guerra, smembramenti, pipistrelli, mostri e sangue. Come può un immaginario così violento essere tanto incantevole?”. Con il suo stile infantile e i suoi colori pacati, basati su una gamma di toni ridotta, Marcel Dzama confonde fabbrica immagini surreali, che rispecchiano metaforicamente il gradiente di violenza raggiunto nella società odierna.
