After publishing underground comics in Robert Crumb’s Ray Zones 3D comics and Weirdo, the artist known as Xno moved his underground punk style to painting, taking inspiration from the Gothic and kitsch world of horror B-movies.
Freaks, vampires, robots, and mutant monsters move around against creepy Transylvanian backdrops or desolate alien landscapes, like in a film by Edward Wood or in an amusing Halloween masquerade.
Two of the three paintings in this exhibition portray Frankenstein and his wife, while the third shows an extremely detailed lunar landscape that acts as the setting for a comic-style war of the worlds.
