Bagayan Ana

Ana Bagayan (Yerevan, Armenia, 1983) is a painter who studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
She paints a dream world, shot through with a vein of subtle cruelty, which leads the tone of the narrative into a borderline area between nightmare and idyll. The two paintings on show form an ideal vertical diptych. We see a delicate, surreal scene set against a fairytale landscape in which each detail is painted with meticulous precision.
But it is precisely these details, like the little wounds on the petals of the flower-child, that contradict the apparently fabulous tone of the portrayal, subtly revealing the ambiguous nature of Bagayan’s work.
